Setting Up Blogger's Custom Domain Settings in GoDaddy

I've read through various tutorials on setting up your custom domain to use with Blogger through GoDaddy's domain hosting. The issue with almost all of them is that they leave out important bits of information that is crucial in adjusting your settings correctly.

In this tutorial, I'll provide a step-by-step guide on setting up correctly with the newer Blogger interface.

Step 1: Create a custom domain through GoDaddy (this can range from $8-$10 without domain security.

Step 2: Log into GoDaddy.com then hover over the Domains tab then click Domain Management. Now click on the name of the custom URL you'd like to use for Blogger.

Step 3: Scroll down and click Set Nameservers then set this to Park.

Step 4: Go back to the Domain Management area and click on the Forward button that has a small arrow pointing down then click Forward Domain. Now add the URL Blogger has given you in this area (http://www.xxxxxxxxx.blogspot.com) then hit OK.

Step 5:Now go back to the Domain Management area and scroll down a bit and click the Launch button under DNS Manager.

Step 6: Under the A (Host) name section there are 4 Google IP addresses you'll need to point your domain to as followed:

216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21

Under the names of these you'll want to put the name of your custom URL in the format xxxxxxxx.com

Now make sure to click Save.

Step 7: In the DNS Manager, under CNAME (Alias) you need to edit the current entry for www or create one if it's not there.

For the Name you want to put www
For the Host Name enter ghs.google.com

Step 8: Hit the Save button now head to blogger.com

Step 9: Go to the Settings tab in the Blogger Dashboard of the blog you want to have the custom URL. Under Basic, in the Publishing section, click the Add a custom domain button then click Switch to advanced settings.

Now in the box enter the URL of the custom domain you've purchased with the www included.
Ex: www.xxxxxxxx.com

Now click Save.

Step 10: Give the DNS settings you've changed 1 hour to 48 hours to take affect. If you've followed the instructions, you'll notice that typing in your custom URL in your browser will point to your blog!

Happy Blogging!
