My Top 5 Songs

To kick off this new year with some new content and ideas, I decided to start lists of my favorites.

The songs following are not just songs that get a lot of play time on my iPod/iTunes/Blackberry, but songs that are simply amazing for the reasons given.

#1 Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing [Live at Royal Albert Hall version]

Jimi Hendrix is my favorite guitarist simply because of his innovation of all of his own style of music. I've listened to this song at least 500 times in my lifetime because every note within this song has feel and every note phrase has a separate feel of its own. The lyrics are simple, he's referring to his mom throughout the song whom died before the song was created. The song starts out with a great bluesy feel, but ends with the best guitar solo I've ever hard that builds with intensity as time passes.

#2 Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happiness

Kid Cudi is well known for mixing his emotions with great lyrics and outstanding beats. Pursuit of Happiness is a prime example of this. After countless plays, no matter what mood I'm in to begin with, I always end up with a sense of happiness. "Everything that shines ain't always gonna be gold." <- One of m favorite quotes not only because of the truth, but that it can apply to anyone's life. I also love the guitar solo in this song for it's simplicity and sound. The music videos for this song are well put together. The original version features Kid Cudi having an amazing time partying with some of the biggest names in the music industry, then later ending up stumbling to the bathroom feeling terrible. One can go from pure happiness to the crappiest mood of their life in a simple matter of time. The Megaforce version of this video is amazing because every lyric of the song matches the content of the video. You'll just have to watch it for yourself to understand what I mean.

#3 Bob Marley - Don't Worry, Be Happy

Another song that aims to put listeners in a good mood, no matter how terrible it is at first. Any time I'm feeling down, this song is played. I love the simplistic reggae feel and the lyrics as a whole.

#4 Nas - Hero

Coming from a controversial album alone, this song shows that controversy and the artist's view of the album as a whole. Nas wanted the album to be titled 'Nigger' but of course the market wouldn't allow it. So he comes back saying no matter what the title's called, he's still going to speak his mind, even if he has to fight to say it. Imagine if legends in the past couldn't say what they felt from the soul. The beat alone is outstanding and lyrics come together beautifully.

#5 Kanye West - Spaceship

Mr. West did an excellent job with this song of reaching out to all the people out there struggling. He's "been there, done that" and shows this well within the lyrics. This is for the people who work very hard but would like a break and can escape from it all. "I've been working this grave-shift, and I ain't made sh*t. I wish I could buy me a spaceship and fly, past the sky."
